Here are a few ideas…

The Joshua Project is a Christian organization focused on researching and sharing data about unreached people groups worldwide—those with limited or no access to the Gospel. It provides statistics, prayer resources, and demographic details on ethnic groups, languages, and religious affiliations. The goal is to assist churches, missionaries, and Christian organizations in understanding and prioritizing outreach efforts to reach these underserved populations with the message of Christianity.

An Overview of Christianity and the Cantonese Language

Christianity in China has a complex history, beginning as early as the 7th century when Nestorian Christians first introduced the faith during the Tang Dynasty. However, it was not until the 16th century that Christianity made significant inroads with the arrival of Jesuit missionaries, such as Matteo Ricci, who engaged in cultural and intellectual exchanges with Chinese scholars and began translating Christian texts into Chinese. The first full translation of the Bible into classical Chinese was completed in the early 19th century by Robert Morrison, a Protestant missionary from the London Missionary Society. Morrison’s translation became foundational for Chinese Christians and marked the beginning of widespread Bible translation efforts in China.

In the 20th century, further progress was made with the Chinese Union Version (CUV), completed in 1919, which became the standard translation for Chinese Christians, using traditional Chinese characters and easily understood classical phrasing. This translation remains popular among Chinese-speaking Christians worldwide. In recent decades, additional translations have emerged, including modernized versions in traditional and simplified characters, aimed at making the Bible accessible to new generations. Today, despite restrictions on Christianity in China, the traditional Chinese Bible plays a vital role in maintaining the faith among Chinese-speaking communities in China and globally, where it serves as a key resource for worship, study, and outreach.
